Maintenance Tips for Your Home Air Conditioning Unit

To ensure your air conditioner continues to run smoothly and efficiently, it’s important to carry out some basic routine maintenance. Without the correct maintenance plan in place, your air conditioning unit could use more energy, cost you more money and eventually break down.

Below, we share our top maintenance tips to ensure your system continues to run smoothly and keeps you cool without breaking down.

Clean and replace the air filter

It’s important to regularly clean and replace the air filter in your AC system. If your system comes with a reusable filter, you can give it a good clean and put it back. If your filter is replaceable, you should aim to replace it regularly. How often you replace it will depend on how often the unit is running and how dirty the air is.

If your filter isn’t cleaned regularly, it can become clogged with dirt, dust and allergens, decreasing the airflow. A filter clogged with dirt and dust can also pass on harmful particles into the air that you breathe, putting your health at risk.

Inspect the wiring

When it comes to inspecting the wiring, we always recommend hiring a professional if you’re not sure what you’re doing. A professional can service your unit and make sure it’s running efficiently and in top condition.

If you want to inspect the wiring yourself, it’s important to make sure the system is turned off and there is no power. You can remove the access panel of your condensing unit and look for any burned or broken wires. You should also keep an eye out for any melted insulations.

Use a smart thermostat

The thermostat is used to maintain the right temperature in your home. We recommend investing in a programmable thermostat (rather than a mechanical thermostat) so that you can easily control and adjust the temperature of a room. If you’re stuck in traffic and want your home to be a comfortable temperature for your arrival, you can simply turn the system down on an app.

Check the condenser’s fan

To ensure your air conditioning unit continues to function correctly, it’s important to check the condenser’s fan. Examine the fan’s blades for any signs of chips or cracks. If you notice any problems or signs of damage, the fan should be replaced.
